My musical journey truly began around the age of 14, when my mother gave me my first electric guitar for christmas. It was a Harmony brand guitar, if you've ever heard of them. I'd certainly never heard of them, but I'm pretty sure she bought that gorgeous chunk of plywood from the local JC Penney's. Needless to say, I didn't play it much at all, but one day my older cousin picked it up and played it for me. It was then that I learned my very first song, the first 5 seconds of "Smoke on the Water" by Deep Purple.
Over the next few years, I would begin taking guitar lessons, and soon I would graduate high school and leave town to persue my dream; Mechanical Engineering. That didn't work out so well. Turns out it's pretty tough, and the fact that I skipped class all the time to stay in my room and compose music only exacerbated the situation. So, at the advice of the small following I had developed through sharing my music online, I left Engineering School and made my way to Duquesne University, majoring in Music Technology and Composition, wonderfully enough with my parent's blessings.
Over the next 4 years, I would come to learn a great deal about music theory, music technology, the music business, and everything else in between, honestly. My compositional style, originally rock-oriented, evolved and soon I was writing symphonies and art pieces as well. Coming to Duquesne University was easily the greatest decision of my life, and especially because of the teachers I've met and musicians I've worked with.
